Basic Troubleshooting
If you find you are experiencing difficulty with a particular eCollege feature, one of the first things you will be asked by the eCollege help desk, is to try another browser. I recommend trying both FireFox and Safari on both operating systems to see if it solves any issue you may be experiencing.
If that doesn’t help, try the following to clear the cache from your browser:
NDUS Online Conference
I’m currently sitting in the NDUS Online Conference in Fargo, where among other things, we’re going over the Noel-Levitz survey with the 2008 North Dakota results.
Guess what the big topic is that appears will drive this conference, Quality Matters - or a version thereof at least.
Expect to hear and see more of it on our campus in the coming months!
eCollege/eCompanion Video Tutorials
If you’re new to eCollege/eCompanion, or would just like a refresher, we’ve made video tutorials available on eCollege/eCompanion basics.
We’ll add more advanced topics down the road, but wanted to get these up in case we have a spike in eCollege/eCompanion use due to an H1N1 closure.
You can access to the videos two ways; via iTunes U, or YouTube.

LiveScribe
I make no bones about how powerful a tool I think the LiveScribe pen is. I use it in my graduate program to organize and search thru notes taken in my class sessions. Below is yet another example of how well it can be used to explain a point to remote students.
Wimba WOW Contest
Advanced Learning Technologies recently conducted the first annual Wimba WOW contest, recognizing creative uses of the Wimba Collaboration Suite. Wimba users across the University System were asked to submit narratives on how they used Wimba tools to engage students and enhance learning. The top five entries will be showcased in the coming months as part of North Dakota Wimba webinars. Winning entries included:
US Broadband Penetration at 93%
According to this report, home broadband internet connectivity in the US was at 92.96% in June 2009. Dial-up users connecting at 56Kbps or less now make up 7.04% of active Internet users.
Screener
Articulate launched a new screencasting tool called Screenr. It is a free web-based tool that lets you create screencasts without installing any software.
.NExT
As you may (or may not) know, ALL BSC courses will be migrated to eCollege’s .NExT platform by Fall of 2009. This link opens an online guide for .NExT and its new features.
Lecture Capture with CourseCast
If you’ve heard of Tegrity lecture capture, you may be interested in CourseCast. both applications provide lecture capture for your class, but CourseCast is currently available to us via the NDUS for free.
Video Cameras for iTunes U & Video Podcasts
I recently had a great question show up in my inbox from a faculty member, wondering if their department were to purchase a camcorder to record classes on their own, what should they look for?
Here’s my response:
